Daily GK Update- 03-March-2017 (Only Kaam ki baat)

1.West Bengal Government has given official language status to endangered tribal language Kurukh, mother tongue belonging to the Dravidian family. 

2.Wildlife Crime Control Bureau (WCCB) has successfully coordinated Operation Thunder Bird from January 30 to February 19, 2017 in its fight to end poaching of India’s wildlife animals.

3.March 3: World Wildlife Day- 2017 theme: “Listen to the Young Voices”.

4.The Defence Research and Development Organization (DRDO) formally handed over an indigenously developed Weapon Locating Radar (WLR) system dubbed as ‘SWATHI’ (It has a range of 50 km) to Indian Army. The DRDO also handed over a Nuclear, Biological and Chemical (NBC) recce vehicle Mk-I and NBC treatment drugs to the Indian Army.

5.India has accepted an invitation to attend the next meeting of the Permanent Indus Commission (PIC) of the Indus Waters Treaty (IWT), to be held in Lahore in March 2017. The last round of the PIC was held in July 2016.

6.In November 2016, India also rejected World Bank’s decision to constitute a Court of Arbitration to look into complaints from Pakistan over India’s construction of Kishenganga and Ratle river water projects.

7.The Union Government has announced that half of the 4,096-km long border India shares with Bangladesh has been fenced. The remaining half will be fenced by 2019 deadline.

9.Indian grandmaster Harika Dronavalli has won a bronze medal at the 2017 Women’s World Chess Championship in Tehran.

10.Indian cricket captain Virat Kohli will be conferred with the 2017 Polly Umrigar Award.(by the Indian cricket board).Kohli, who received the award in 2011-12 and 2014-15, becomes the first Indian cricketer to get it on the third occasion.

11.Ravichandran Ashwin will also become the first Indian to receive the Dilip Sardesai award (by the Indian cricket board) twice for his best performance in bilateral series.

12.The Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) has won the annual Visitor’s Award for the ‘Best University 2017’.

13.The ‘Working Group on Migration’ headed by Partha Mukhopadhay committee has submitted its’ report to the Union Government to protect the interests of the migrants.

14.Assam government has made Sanskrit education compulsory in all state board schools till Class VIII. 

15.Penalty of Rs 10,000 will be imposed on banks if they refuse to exchange soiled or ascribed currency notes from people, according to Reserve Bank of India (RBI).a bank may levy a service charge if a person exchanges more than 20 notes, or notes worth Rs.5, 000 per day. The RBI also clarified that such notes continue to be legal tender.
