1.As per Economic Survey 2016-17 Volume II, tabled in Parliament by Finance Minister Arun Jaitley on August 11, 2017, meeting the upper end of the 6.75-7.5 per cent GDP growth forecast for 2017-18 will be a challenge.

2. Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion (DIPP) under Ministry of Commerce and Industry has approved two projects for development of industrial clusters at Hindupur and  Bobbili in the respective districts of Ananatapur and Vizianagaram of Andhra 

3. Government has fixed an ambitious target of installing 60 giga watt (GW) wind power capacity in the country by 2022.

7. Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) bought 1.9 million barrels of U.S. crude in its second import tender making it the first Indian refiner to purchase Eagle Ford shale oil

8. ReenatSandhu, (lFS: 1989), presently Ambassador of lndia to ltaly. She has been concurrently accredited as the next Ambassador of lndia to the Republic of San Marino, with residence in Rome.

11. The Centre has appointed lyricist Prasoon Joshi as Chairman of the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) for a period of three years. Mr. Joshi has replaced former Chairman Pahlaj Nihalani.

12. Legendary Indian athlete Milkha Singh has been appointed WHO Goodwill Ambassador for Physical Activity in South-East Asia Region.

14. National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) has appointed Dilip Asbe to act as its chief executive officer in the wake of the retirement of A. P. Hota, its founding managing director.

16. Ruth Pfau, a German nun who devoted her life to combatting leprosy in Pakistan, has died at the age of 87. Pfau, who was known locally as Pakistan's Mother Teresa, came to the southern port city of Karachi in 1960.

17. Israeli Holocaust survivor Yisrael Kristal, certified by Guinness World Records as the world’s oldest man, died aged 113.

18. The Union Ministry of Environment and Forest has launched a nationwide campaign Gaj Yatra to protect elephants. It was launched on the occasion of World Elephant Day observed on August 12.

19. Veteran journalist T J S George has been chosen for the first Kesari Media Award, instituted by the Kesari Memorial Journalist Trust (KMJT). 

20. The Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) , the capital and commodity market regulator, has recently allowed Multi Commodity Exchange of India Ltd (MCX) to launch India’s first gold options contract soon. It will allow investors and hedgers to minimise their price risk at a fraction of cost compared to currently available futures trading. The headquarters of MCX is located in Mumbai, Maharashtra.

21. Recently, the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) has decided to close down those technical colleges which recorded less than 30% admissions in the last five years.

23. Rinku Hooda (18) from India has won silver in the F46 javelin throw event at the World U-20 Para Athletics Championships in Nottwil, Switzerland .

24. The Parliamentary Panel headed by Maj. General (Retired) B C Khanduri has recently tabled its report in Parliament. In the report, the panel has recommended the 100% pension to widow of deceased soldier so that she can take care of her family

26. US President Donald Trump had appointed Indian-American Neil Chatterjee as chair of the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC).

27. Union Minister of State for HRD (Human Resource Development) Mahendra Nath Pandey launched three-minute video of Indian National Anthem in sign language, featuring Bollywood actor Amitabh Bachchan along with physically challenged children with the Red Fort in the background.

31. The Economic Survey has proposed Transparency of Rules Act (TORA), a legislation to end any asymmetry of information regarding rules and regulations faced by an average citizen.

32. Ahead of the Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe’s scheduled visit to India in September, Gujarat government is setting up a brand new “Japanese Industrial Park” on the Delhi-Mumbai Industrial Corridor (DMIC) passing through Ahmedabad, that is spread on 1555 hectare and is 15 times bigger in size compared to an existing one.

33. Union Minister of State for Road Transport and Highways, Shipping and Chemicals and Fertilizers, Shri Mansukh Lal Mandviya, presided over the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signing ceremony between the Union Government and the State Government of Uttar Pradesh for opening 1000 Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Janaushadhi Pariyojana (PMBJP) Kendras in the State.

35. Union Bank of India’s board of directors gave ‘in-principle’ approval to induct Japanese   Dai-ichi Life Holdings group company Asset Management One Company as a strategic partner in Union Asset Management Company Pvt Ltd (Union AMC). Rajkiran Rai G, MD & CEO, Union Bank of India, said the foreign partner will own 40 per cent stake in Union AMC

36. 12 Indian and British universities, including Oxford and Cambridge, has received a £7 million grant from the U.K. government to build self-sufficient solar-powered buildings in Indian villages.

42. With $2.4 billion funding from SoftBank, Flipkart has become the 3rd most funded private company globally.
#Flipkart till date has raised almost $7 billion in capital, higher than that raised by Airbnb & Xiaomi.
The top 2 are both ridehailing platforms – China based Didi Chuxing & US-based Uber.

43 .  Under a state govt scheme launched by CM Vijay Rupani, Around 3.5 lakh college students in Gujarat will get tablets at a subsidised rate of Rs 1,000.

#Under this scheme, 1st year college students in the state will get 7-inch ‘NAMO E-Tab’ tablets by just paying Rs 1,000. Govt has allocated Rs 200 cr for this scheme.
#NAMO E-Tab is acronym for ‘New Avenues of Modern Education through Tablets’.
