1. Government of India’s Street Lighting National programme (SLNP) has illuminated 50,000 KM of Indian roads with installation of 30 lakh LED street lights across the country. With this milestone Energy Efficiency Services Limited has become the world’s largest street light management company.

2. To prevent adulteration and revenue leakage, the Assam government has decided that country liquor would be grain-based, undergo chemical tests and be branded and make it mandatory for the bottles to sport a hologram as in the case of IMFL.

3. Delhi Metro has opened a facility to recycle the waste produced during its demolition and construction work.

4. Utrecht, Netherlands  has opened the world’s largest bicycle parking garage. The parking lot is spread in an area of over 17,100 sq m and three storeys.

5. Dick Gregory was a comedian who played a prominent role in the 1960s civil rights movement after becoming one of the first black comics to perform for white audiences. He died on 19th of August 2017 

6. Para athlete Devendra and hockey player Sardar Singh will be honoured with the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna Award.

7. FDI jumps 37% to $10.4 billion during April-June 2017 .
According to the figures of the Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion (DIPP), India had received USD 7.59 billion FDI during April-June 2016-17.

8. The board of state-owned Oil and Natural Gas Corp, ONGC, has given 'in-principle' approval to acquire government's 51 (point) 11 per cent stake in Hindustan Petroleum Corp Ltd. The government had approved the sale of its 51.11 per cent stake in oil refiner HPCL to India's largest oil producer ONGC. The deal will be completed within a year
The government had also constituted a committee headed by Finance Minister Arun Jaitley and comprising oil minister Dharmendra Pradhan and road minister Nitin Gadkari to work out the modalities of the sale.

9. The Information and Broadcasting Ministry on 21 August 2017 constituted a 40-member 'preview committee’ for the International Film Festival of India 2017, which is going to be held in Goa.
While filmmaker Vivek Agnihotri has been chosen as the convenor of the committee.
  • International Film Festival of India (IFFI) is scheduled to be held in Goa from 20 – 28 November 2017.
10. The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has signed a letter of intent (LoI) with Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) deepen bilateral cooperation in telecom and broadcasting regulation.

11. The seventeenth Meeting of the Financial Stability and Development Council (FSDC) was held in New Delhi under the Chairmanship of the Union Minister of Finance Arun Jaitley.

12. The International Seabed Authority (ISA) (Its headquarters are in Kingston, Jamaica.) in its 23rd session recently held at Kingston, Jamaica has extended India’s exclusive rights to explore polymetallic nodules from seabed in Central Indian Ocean Basin (CIOB).

18. The book “I am HIV positive, so what?” has been authored by journalist Jayanta Kalita and published by Bloomsbury. The book is based on the life of Manipur’s acclaimed bodybuilder Khundrakpam Pradip kumar Singh, who is known for his struggle against HIV-AIDS.

19. The Mrugavani National Park (MNP) is located at Chilkur in Hyderabad, Telangana .

20. The Parambikulam Tiger Reserve (PTR) is a protected area located in Chittur taluk in Palakkad district of Kerala.

22. Tata Power its joint venture company Adjaristsqali Georgia LLC (AGL) synchronized 186 MW Shuakhevi Hydro Project in Georgia
AGL is a Tata Power joint venture with Norway’s Clean Energy Invest AS Norway (Clean Energy) and IFC InfraVentures (IFC), a member of the World Bank Group.

28. Nirmala Sitharaman, the Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Commerce and Industries, on 21 August 2017 announced that the construction work of Asian Trilateral Highway will commence shortly to catalyze the Act East policy.
The Asian Trilateral Highway is a highway under construction that will connect Moreh, India with Mae Sot, Thailand via Myanmar.

29. A Festival of India is being organized in Cote d’Ivoire and concurrently accredited countries of Liberia and Guinea from 15 August, 2017 – 28 January, 2018.
