Daily Current Affairs Update October -05 2017

1.  Government constituted a high-level committee for proper management of the water resources in the North Eastern Region (NER).
The Committee has been formed under the Chairmanship of Rajiv Kumar, Vice-Chairman of Niti Aayog.

2. Human Resource Development (HRD) Ministry started a special training course for untrained teachers, designed by National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS), called Diploma in Elementary Education (D.El.Ed).
This course would be offered through ‘Swayam’, a platform for online education and knowledge through Dish TV. A mobile application has also been launched to help with clarifications.

3. Ministry of Railways announced that service charge exemption on tickets booked online (e-tickets) will be extended till March 2018

4. Uttar Pradesh State Government launched a mass marriage scheme called ‘Mukhyamantri Samoohik Vivaah Yojana’.

5. Government forces launched a major Cordon-and-Search-Operation (CASO), in Hajin town of north Kashmir’s Bandipora district.

6. 8th conference of the Association of SAARC Speakers and Parliamentarians (ASSP) is held at Hotel Hilton, in Colombo, Sri Lanka.

7. HDFC Life Insurance Company launched Neo, a servicing bot for Twitter, to improve customer service.

8. In a bid to make transactions of the Uttarakhand State Government more convenient, Reserve Bank of India (RBI) opened a branch in Dehradun

9. British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) announced the launch of news services in four more Indian languages — Gujarati, Marathi, Punjabi and Telugu.
With this announcement, BBC’s Delhi bureau will become its largest bureau outside the United Kingdom.

10. Digital payments firm MobiKwik announced its partnership with Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation – IRCTC Rail connect app, which will allow customers book railway tickets using Mobikwik’s payment gateway.

11. Manipal University’s Manipal Institute of Technology (MIT) bagged the 1st place in ‘Most Clean Campus in South Western Region’ award and 3rd place in ‘Most Clean Campus 2017’ award, in Pune, Maharashtra.

12. WWF-India, in partnership with Capgemini, launched One Planet Academy, the first environment education portal for students and teachers in India.

The One Planet Academy website is a digital network for schools, teachers and students. It acts as a training and resource centre for environmental education.

15. Kazuo Ishiguro, “who, in novels of great emotional force, has uncovered the abyss beneath our illusory sense of connection with the world”, has been awarded the 2017 Nobel Prize in Literature, the Swedish Academy announced.

16. Forbes Magazine has released its India Rich List for 2017, with Reliance Industries Limited chairman Mukesh Ambani topping the charts for the 10th consecutive year with a net worth of $38 billion.

17. World Teachers’ Day is held annually on 5 October since 1994 to commemorate the anniversary of the signing of the 1966 UNESCO/ILO Recommendation concerning the Status of Teachers.

18. Pooja Kadian became the first ever Indian sportsperson to win a gold medal at the Wushu World Championship in Kazan, Russia.

The Union Ministry of Tourism in collaboration with Other Union Ministries and State Governments has launched nationwide ‘Paryatan Parv’ to showcase cultural diversity of country and reinforce the principle of ‘Tourism for All’. Its objective is to draw focus on the benefits of tourism.
